Fine Art Printing Info
Fine Art Printing (sometimes known as Giclée Printing) is not just your standard digital printing process.
The Printer
These printers are finely tuned and will usually have custom colour profiles painstakingly crafted for each paper type to ensure perfect colour accuracy and clarity.
Rather than the standard 4 inks (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), these printers have 10-12 different inks, some even having red, orange, green and violet inks along with multiple shades of black and grey to enhance detail is soft gradients.
The Ink
The inks themselves are high quality, pigment based inks, meaning once the ink is dry, it has an incredible lifespan rated to stay colour-accurate for well over 100 years!
The Paper
The inks can only do their job if they are printed on a high quality paper. Ilford Galeries' Smooth Cotton Rag is an acid-free, archival fine art paper, specifically designed with longevity in mind. Be sure to ask your framer to use conservation methods and your print will last a lifetime!
